Nestled in the heart of the historic center, Plaza de San Juan de Dios is one of the most important squares in the city, steeped in history and charm. Its irregular layout is a testament to its rich past, dating back to the 1500s when it served as a bustling center of urban activity and trade with the Americas.

The modern looking Plaza San Juan de Dios

Overlooking the square is the magnificent church of San Juan de Dios, renowned for its Baroque facade and ornate interior. Step inside and marvel at the intricate details that adorn this sacred space, offering a glimpse into Cadiz’s religious heritage.

In 2012, Plaza de San Juan de Dios underwent a transformation, with the pedestrianization of the space and the addition of new ornamental elements. Among these is the monument to the Cádiz politician Segismundo Moret, originally inaugurated in 1909 and recovered during the remodeling.
